UET grade points

UET awards letter grades on a relative scale in Type-A (theory) subjects: the instructor sets minimum and maximum mark thresholds, ranks the students between them, and grades from the class average and standard deviation. Type-B and Type-C subjects may be graded on an absolute scale. That is why the prospectus publishes grade points but no fixed mark range per grade.

The GPA formula

GPA = Σ(grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ(credit hours), over the subjects of the semester. CGPA runs the same calculation over every semester so far.

Worked example

SubjectCredit hoursGradePointsCredit hours × points
Subject 13A4.012.0
Subject 23B+3.39.9
Subject 34B−2.710.8
Subject 42Wnonenot counted

Counted credit hours = 10, total points = 32.7, so GPA = 32.7 ÷ 10 = 3.27. The withdrawn subject changes nothing; had it been an F, the GPA would be 32.7 ÷ 12 = 2.73.

Grades that do not count

  • W: withdrawal, applied for by the 6th study week (3rd in summer).
  • WF: forced withdrawal for shortage of attendance or discipline.
  • IP: in progress, for Type-C subjects such as a thesis spread over semesters.
  • I: incomplete, an interim grade that becomes a letter grade, or an F if the work is not finished in the following semester.

How to use this calculator

  1. Add a row per subject with its credit hours.
  2. Pick the grade from your result. W, WF and IP are skipped automatically.
  3. Read the GPA, or enter all semesters for the CGPA.
  4. For admission merit rather than grades, use the UET & ECAT Aggregate Calculator.

Grade points and rules follow UET Lahore's Undergraduate Prospectus Fall 2026, read on 20 September 2026. Your official GPA is the one the Controller of Examinations notifies.

Frequently asked questions

What are the UET grade points?

Regulation 10(c): A+ 4.0, A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B- 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C- 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0 and F 0. A+ and A carry the same points; A+ recognises exceptional results above the maximum threshold. D is the lowest passing grade.

How does UET calculate GPA and CGPA?

Regulation 11.1: GPA is the sum of (grade points x credit hours) for the semester divided by the total credit hours. CGPA is the same calculation across all semesters completed so far. The Controller of Examinations computes and notifies both at the end of each semester.

Do W, WF and IP grades affect my UET GPA?

No. A withdrawal (W), a forced withdrawal for shortage of attendance or discipline (WF) and an in-progress (IP) grade are shown on the transcript but are not used in the GPA. A student who neither drops a subject nor appears in any assessment gets an F instead of a WF, and an F does count.

What happens when I repeat a subject at UET?

Regulation 13: the new grade replaces the previous one in the CGPA, whether it is higher or lower, and repeated subjects appear on the transcript with an "R" suffix.

Does UET publish a CGPA to percentage formula?

Not in the prospectus we read. It gives grade points and the GPA formula, and uses CGPA thresholds elsewhere (for example a CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 counts as 60% when a B.Sc. Engineering Technology holder applies for admission). If a form needs a percentage, ask the Controller of Examinations what UET certifies.
