REC Grade Calculator

For students at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai. Every number here comes from REC’s own Regulations 2023, not from a generic Indian formula. REC is an autonomous institution, so its grade points and passing rules are its own rather than Anna University’s.

1. Your GPA or CGPA

GPA across 9 credits
8.00
REC R2023 grade points, credit-weighted (clause 15.5). Enter every semester’s courses together to get the CGPA instead.

2. What you need in the end-semester exam

End-semester mark needed to pass
45%
REC requires 50% overall and at least 45% in the end-semester paper itself (clause 14.1), so the answer never drops below 45%.

REC R2023 grade points

GradePointsMarks (fixed grading)Meaning
O1091 - 100Outstanding
A+981 - 90Excellent
A871 - 80Very Good
B+761 - 70Good
B656 - 60Average
C550 - 55Satisfactory
U0below 50Re-appearance

REC uses relative grading when a course has more than 30 students, so the mark bands above apply only to smaller cohorts. In a relatively graded course your grade depends on the cohort, not on a fixed cut-off.

Why REC needs its own calculator

Rajalakshmi Engineering College is affiliated to Anna University but holds autonomous status, extended by the University Grants Commission in January 2024 for 2023-24 to 2032-33 (UGC letter No. F.2-10/2023(AC-Policy) to Anna University). An autonomous college sets its own curriculum, examinations and grading. That is why applying Anna University’s conversion to an REC result gives the wrong answer, and why a generic Indian grade calculator does not fit either.

The grade points, from clause 15.1

GradePointsMarks (fixed grading)
O (Outstanding)1091 – 100
A+ (Excellent)981 – 90
A (Very Good)871 – 80
B+ (Good)761 – 70
B (Average)656 – 60
C (Satisfactory)550 – 55
U (Re-appearance)0below 50

Those mark bands apply only when a course has 30 students or fewer. Above that, REC uses relative grading: the cut-offs are computed per course from the marks of students who passed, so your grade depends on the cohort rather than a fixed threshold.

Internal and end-semester weighting, from clause 12

Course typeContinuous assessmentEnd-semester
Theory40%60%
Laboratory60%40%
Theory with laboratory50%50%
Project40%60%

Passing needs two things, not one

Clause 14.1 requires 50% of the total marks and, separately, at least 45% in the end-semester examination. A strong internal score cannot rescue a failed end-semester paper. If you reappear, the continuous assessment marks from your first attempt carry forward to the second attempt, but from the third attempt onwards they are dropped and the end-semester paper alone must reach 50%.

Attendance

REC requires a minimum of 75% attendance in every course, rounded to the nearest integer. Falling short produces an SA grade, which bars you from that course’s end-semester examination. The attendance calculator works out how many classes that leaves you.

About the CGPA to percentage question

REC publishes no CGPA to percentage conversion. The R2023 UG Regulations contain none, and the only percentage formula in the document is the attendance one. Several third-party tools show a conversion for REC anyway; those are estimates, not an REC rule.

If an employer or university asks for a percentage, ask REC’s Controller of Examinations what the college will certify, and submit the grade sheet REC issues. A calculated percentage is not something REC stands behind.

Source and currency

Every figure on this page is taken from REC’s Regulations 2023, B.E./B.Tech. (UG), published on the college’s academics page, read on 11 September 2026. Regulations change between admission batches, so confirm that R2023 is the regulation you were admitted under before relying on these numbers.

Frequently asked questions

What are the REC R2023 grade points?

O (Outstanding) is 10 points, A+ (Excellent) 9, A (Very Good) 8, B+ (Good) 7, B (Average) 6, C (Satisfactory) 5, and U (Re-appearance) 0. SA means shortage of attendance and WD means withdrawal; neither carries points. This is clause 15.1 of the R2023 UG Regulations.

How does REC calculate GPA and CGPA?

Clause 15.5: GPA is the sum of (credits multiplied by grade points) for the semester, divided by the total credits registered. CGPA is the same calculation across every semester from the first onwards. Grades U and SA are excluded from both.

What is the REC CGPA to percentage formula?

REC does not publish one. The R2023 UG Regulations contain no CGPA to percentage conversion at all; the only percentage formula in the document is for attendance. If a form asks you for a percentage, ask the Controller of Examinations what REC will certify, and submit the grade sheet REC issues rather than a figure you calculated. Treat any conversion you find on a third-party site as an unofficial estimate.

What do I need in the end-semester exam to pass at REC?

Clause 14.1 sets two conditions at once: at least 50% of the total marks (continuous assessment plus end-semester), and at least 45% in the end-semester examination itself. Meeting only one is not enough, which is why the calculator never returns a target below 45%.

Why does my grade not match the mark ranges shown?

REC awards grades by relative grading whenever a course has more than 30 students, and only uses the fixed mark bands for smaller cohorts (clause 15.1). Under relative grading the cut-offs are computed per course from the cohort that passed, so the same mark can earn different grades in different courses.
