JNTU CGPA to Percentage Calculator

The JNTUs do not share one conversion, and JNTU Kakinada and JNTU Anantapur changed theirs with the R23 regulations. JNTU Hyderabad subtracts 0.5 from the CGPA before multiplying by 10. JNTUK and JNTUA subtract 0.75 under R16 and R20, but 0.5 under R23 (students admitted from 2023-24). Pick your university and regulation, enter the CGPA from your consolidated marks memo, and the calculator applies the formula written in those regulations.

Two formulas, three universities, one change in R23

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was split into three universities in 2008: Hyderabad (JNTUH), Kakinada (JNTUK) and Anantapur (JNTUA). Each now writes its own B.Tech regulations. JNTUH defines the percentage equivalent as (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. JNTUK defined it as (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 up to R20, then moved to (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 in R23; JNTUA’s R23 regulations state the same. The 0.25 difference moves every percentage by 2.5 points, which is enough to change eligibility at a 60% or 70% cut-off.

The −0.5 column also applies to JNTUK and JNTUA students on R23. Note the 6.5 row: with −0.5 a 6.5 CGPA reaches 60%, a common cut-off in job notifications; with −0.75 it does not. Always convert with your own university’s constant and regulation before deciding whether you qualify.

JNTU 10-point grade scale

Letter grades come from the total of internal and external marks on a 10-point scale. The bands below are JNTUH’s (R22, clause 9.2). JNTUK’s R23 regulations use the same mark bands and grade points with the letters S, A, B, C, D and E instead. Older regulations may use different cut-offs.

How CGPA is computed at JNTU

SGPA for a semester is Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ(credits) over the courses in that semester; CGPA applies the same weighting across all semesters. If your memo lists SGPAs but no CGPA, the SGPA to CGPA calculator builds it from the semester figures and credit counts.

Frequently asked questions

What is the JNTUH CGPA to percentage formula?

Percentage = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. It is stated in the JNTU Hyderabad B.Tech academic regulations (clause 11.2 in R16, R18 and R22; clause 19.1 in R25). An 8.0 CGPA is (8.0 − 0.5) × 10 = 75%.

What is the JNTUK CGPA to percentage formula?

It depends on your regulation. Under R16 and R20, Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10; the R20 regulations add "as per AICTE regulations". An 8.0 CGPA is 72.5%. Under R23, for students admitted from 2023-24, the JNTUK regulations state (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, so 8.0 is 75%, the same as JNTUH.

Why do JNTUH and JNTUK give different percentages for the same CGPA?

Each university sets its own constant in its academic regulations. JNTUH uses 0.5; JNTUK used 0.75 up to R20 and switched to 0.5 in R23. If you are an R23 student at JNTUK or JNTUA, your figure matches a JNTUH student's. Use the one printed in your own regulations.

Do I need a conversion certificate from JNTU?

For government jobs, PSU recruitment and many foreign applications, yes. JNTUH and JNTUK issue a CGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate through the examination branch on request, usually for a small fee. Employers may accept the formula printed on the back of the marks memo instead.

Which formula applies to affiliated colleges?

The parent university's, for your regulation. A college affiliated to JNTUH follows (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. A college affiliated to JNTUK or JNTUA follows (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 for R20 and earlier batches and (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 for R23. Autonomous colleges may publish their own rule in their regulations.
