VIT grades and grade points
| Grade | Grade points | Marks (absolute grading) | Counted in GPA? |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 10 | 90 and above | Yes |
| A | 9 | 80 to 89 | Yes |
| B | 8 | 70 to 79 | Yes |
| C | 7 | 60 to 69 | Yes |
| D | 6 | 55 to 59 | Yes |
| E | 5 | 50 to 54 | Yes |
| F | 0 | Below 50 | Yes, at 0 |
| N (incomplete) | 0 | none | Yes, at 0 |
| W, U, P | none | none | No |
Some websites give D as 50 to 59 and E as 40 to 49. VIT's own Table 6 gives D 55 to 59 and E 50 to 54, with F below 50.
Worked example
Four courses: S in a 4-credit course, A in a 4-credit course, B in a 3-credit course and F in a 3-credit course.
GPA = (4 ร 10 + 4 ร 9 + 3 ร 8 + 3 ร 0) รท (4 + 4 + 3 + 3) = 100 รท 14 = 7.14. Leaving the F out, as some universities do, would give 100 รท 11 = 9.09, which is not how VIT computes it. As a percentage, 7.14 ร 10 = 71.4%.
How to use this calculator
- Add one row per course with its credits.
- Pick the grade from your grade sheet.
- Read your GPA; W and P rows are left out automatically.
- For CGPA, enter the courses from every semester together.
Based on VIT's FFCS Academic Regulations, Version 4.0, and the Controller of Examinations certificate of 24 February 2025, both read on 20 September 2026. Your official CGPA is the one on your grade sheet.
