The formula the ordinance prints

Percentage of marks scored = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10

That is clause 15 of AKTU's Model Curriculum Ordinance governing the B.Tech degree, effective from session 2018-19. The clause carries its own illustration: a CGPA of 8.66 gives (8.66 − 0.75) × 10 = 79.1%.

Why you will also see “CGPA × 10”

A plain × 10 is repeated on calculator sites, in uploaded documents and in search-engine summaries, usually described as the current practice with − 0.75 called the older rule. We found no AKTU document saying that. The ordinance we read, which is the university's own, gives − 0.75, and the summaries that claim otherwise cite forum posts and third-party uploads rather than a university notice.

The gap is not small. It is exactly 7.5 percentage points at every CGPA, so a 8.00 reads as either 72.5% or 80% depending on which rule is applied. On a job form or an admission portal that is the difference between one division and another, which is why it is worth quoting the clause rather than the shortcut.

If your college or your transcript states a percentage, use that. A printed figure from the institution beats any conversion done afterwards.

Where the CGPA itself comes from

AKTU grades on a 10-point absolute scale, A+ 10 down to E 4 with F at 0, and the CGPA is the credit-weighted average across semesters. The AKTU SGPA calculator works that out from your grades and credits.

The formula and its illustration are read from AKTU's Model Curriculum Ordinance for B.Tech, effective session 2018-19, on 21 September 2026. We could not reach aktu.ac.in from our side to check for a later revision. Confirm with your college or the Controller of Examinations before relying on a figure.

Frequently asked questions

What is the AKTU CGPA to percentage formula?

Clause 15 of the Model Curriculum Ordinance states: "Conversion formula for the conversion of CGPA into Percentage is (CGPA-0.75) x 10 = Percentage of marks scored", with the illustration (8.66-0.75) x 10 = 79.1%.

Is it CGPA × 10 or (CGPA − 0.75) × 10?

The ordinance says (CGPA - 0.75) x 10. A simple x 10 is repeated widely online, including in AI summaries and uploaded documents, but we found no AKTU document stating it. The difference is 7.5 percentage points on every result, which is large enough to matter on an application. Use the ordinance figure, and if your transcript prints a percentage, use that instead of any conversion.

What does my CGPA come to?

Subtract 0.75 and multiply by 10. A CGPA of 8.00 gives 72.5%, 7.50 gives 67.5%, and 9.00 gives 82.5%. The calculator above does it for any value.

Which ordinance does this follow?

The Model Curriculum Ordinance for B.Tech effective from session 2018-19. We could not reach aktu.ac.in from our side to check for a later revision, so if your college quotes a different figure, ask which ordinance it is applying and for which admission year.

Does the same formula apply to other AKTU programmes?

The ordinance we read governs the B.Tech degree. Other programmes are governed by their own ordinances, which we have not read, so do not assume the same constant applies to them.
