AKTU SGPA Calculator

For B.Tech students of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and its affiliated colleges. The Model Curriculum Ordinance uses an absolute grading system on a 10-point scale: A+ is 10 points at 90 marks and above, down to E at 4 and F at 0. Enter each course with its credits.

AKTU grade points and mark ranges

LevelLetter gradeGrade pointsMarks
OutstandingA+1090 and above
ExcellentA980 to 89
Very GoodB+870 to 79
GoodB760 to 69
Above AverageC650 to 59
AverageD545 to 49
PoorE440 to 44
FailF0Below 40

Two points worth noting. The lowest passing grade, E, sits at 40 marks and still carries 4 points, so a bare pass is not worth zero. And because the ordinance follows the AICTE model curriculum, the same ladder appears at many other technical universities.

The SGPA formula

SGPA = Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ(credits)

The ordinance works its own example across eight semesters: credits of 17.5, 20.5, 21, 21, 21, 21, 20 and 18 against SGPAs of 7, 8.5, 9.2, 6.86, 8.18, 7.73, 8.68 and 9.4 give a CGPA of 8.66 over 160 credits. That is the same credit-weighted average, applied to semesters instead of courses.

Worked example for one semester

CourseCreditsGradePointsCredits × points
Course 14A+1040
Course 24A936
Course 33B+824
Course 43B721

Total credits = 14, total points = 121, so SGPA = 121 ÷ 14 = 8.64.

Converting to a percentage

Clause 15 of the same ordinance gives percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, and illustrates it with the 8.66 above becoming 79.1%. The AKTU CGPA to percentage page covers it, including why the widely repeated × 10 shortcut does not match what the ordinance says.

Grade points and rules follow AKTU's Model Curriculum Ordinance for B.Tech, effective from session 2018-19, read on 21 September 2026 from a copy of the ordinance PDF. We could not reach aktu.ac.in from our side to check for a later revision, so confirm against your own batch's ordinance before relying on a figure.

Frequently asked questions

What are the AKTU grade points?

Clause 14.1 of the ordinance: A+ (Outstanding) 10 for 90 marks and above, A (Excellent) 9 for 80 to 89, B+ (Very Good) 8 for 70 to 79, B (Good) 7 for 60 to 69, C (Above Average) 6 for 50 to 59, D (Average) 5 for 45 to 49, E (Poor) 4 for 40 to 44, and F (Fail) 0 below 40.

Is AKTU grading absolute or relative?

Absolute. The ordinance states that AKTU "adopts absolute grading system wherein the marks are converted to grades", so your grade depends on your own marks rather than on the rest of the class. The university does reserve the right to scale or moderate marks before grades are awarded.

What happens with an F grade?

A student with an F in a subject is considered failed in that subject and must reappear. After passing it in a later examination the grade awarded matches the marks scored then. A student whose SGPA is below 5 may also appear in an improvement examination for that semester’s theory subjects.

How do I convert an AKTU CGPA to a percentage?

Clause 15 of the ordinance: percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) x 10. The ordinance illustrates it with a CGPA of 8.66 giving 79.1%. Our AKTU CGPA to percentage page does that conversion.

Which regulation does this page follow?

The Model Curriculum Ordinance for B.Tech effective from session 2018-19. We could not reach aktu.ac.in from our side to check for a later revision, so confirm against the ordinance your own batch was admitted under before relying on a figure.
